Groups are stepping up in new ways to help, plus still time to attend the virtual potluck on May 24th!
Are we having fun yet!!?? Whether you’re an introvert or an extrovert, I believe we are all at least a little stir crazy at this point. So for your reading enjoyment….
South SLO County Womenade has been spreading your donations all over south SLO County.
We made donations onMay7thto: Arroyo Grande Family Resource Center, Nipomo Family Resource Center, Oceano Family Resource Center, The Link, The Nutrition Team, and Lopez High School.
These organizations have all been working tirelessly to meet the ongoing urgent needs, and those created by the current COVID 19 pandemic.
We invite you to join our Zoom “potluck” on Sunday May 24th at 4pm. It’s our first one, and we’re looking forward to seeing how this one works. A number of the advocates have responded that they will attend, even on Memorial Day Weekend! Come listen to what they are working on.
In our last newsletter we suggested a project idea of making food bags of most wanted items for those in need in south county. The Pismo Rotary Club members led the charge and organized the first grocery bag brigade donating many grocery bags of much desired items!
Then another group of Pismo Rotarians showed up with another grocery bag brigade!
Kathy Harris also did her own grocery bag drop off!
This is a great way to make a huge difference in the lives of our clients and giving them foods they really want! The idea is to gather a group of your friends and fill bags with items from the most wanted items list. Connect with your friends and encourage them to start filling grocery bags with these items. One of you can be the group leader and collect and deliver the bags. If you want a receipt for in-kind donations, please let us know and we will email you a form.
They can be delivered to Daniela Garcia, 1511 19th st in Oceano on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Oceano Family Resource Center between 10 AM- 3 PM. Please call her ahead of time to ensure I have someone will be there to receive the items. Phone number is 805-458-1511 call or text
Most wanted items:
Vegetable Oil
Eggs
Corn Tortillas
Flour Tortillas
Cereal
Canned Tuna
Canned Chicken
Instant Coffee
Antibacterial Soap
Maseca Flour (for corn tortillas)
Also if anyone is crafty, they can use face masks!
The agencies continue to work tirelessly by texts, phone and emails to serve their clients. The advocates report that with the ongoing crisis the biggest daily requests are for:
Food, household items gas
rental assistance
baby care items – diapers, wipes, baby food
