Happenings
The 2023 Winter Basket Food Collection is still going on with drop off of items happening December 4th through the 8th at Mariam Shah’s home at 2410 Green Place in Arroyo Grande. There are a number of items on the list that we still need eg. Canned chicken, canned stew and chili, dried beans, peanut butter, fresh tortillas, flour, cereal, shelf stable milk, oatmeal, cake mix and frosting, oreos, and hot chocolate. We also still need helpers with basket assembly, freezer and refrigerator storage. If you haven’t already bought some items, we hope you will consider helping to feed some food insecure children over the long winter school break.
All the details are in the SIGNUPGENIUS (link below). There are also still lots of spots to volunteer your time to help. Here is the SIGNUPGENIUS link:

A Special Donation
Today Jennie Curto of the California School Employees Association presented South SLO County Womenade with a check from a fundraising event they held! Next Potluck - December 13, 6PM
Our last potluck of the year is just around the corner on December 13th at 6PM. It will be at Candace Guldeman’s home at 524 Mesa View Drive, Arroyo Grande. Please carpool! Their home is totally decked out for the holidays and is a treat to see. The Evites have been sent. If you didn’t receive one but would like to attend, please email us at sslocwomenade@gmail.com.
It’s fun to host a potluck. You not only raise funds for some amazing causes but bring the community together. So many friendships have started at one of our potlucks! We are looking for hosts for potluck fundraisers in 2024! Please consider spreading the word throughout South SLO County and inviting your network of friends to join us. You can do this by hosting a potluck fundraiser. There are so many areas in South SLO County that don’t know who we are and what we do! Help us get the word out!
Needed - light weight wheelchair: One of our Womenaders has broken her leg and would like to borrow a light weight wheelchair. If you have one please contact Rosemary Cleaves at rscleaves@gmail.com.
Pacific View Academy Library Needs - Now for something a little different
Jennifer Bowen, Principal of Alternative Education Lucia Mar Unified School District, wrote to ask for our help to help stock the library at the Pacific View Academy. We contacted the “We Love Educators” (WLE) group led by Lisa Aracari and they have taken on the challenge.
Jen wrote:
“We have a great need for books at Pacific View Academy. Due to COVID and distance learning, our little library did not get the attention it needs and deserves. Now that we are offering on campus learning and fun Fridays, it is our hope to get books into our students' hands and hearts and nurture a love of learning and reading. Books we are interested in are: graphic novels, Beginner Readers, Elementary "in between" (2nd/3rd grade levels), Elementary Nonfiction (ours are super outdated), and children's picture books that are current and in good condition.”
The WLE board (Lisa Arakari, Kim Heyde, Lynette Roberts, Maguerite McCurley, Sharon McDaniel) curated a great list of books with an independent bookseller in Arroyo Grande – Monarch Books. This list is composed of new K-8 books representing different genres and interests. In addition, they'll be collecting used books with which to augment their collection. Your purchase will support a local independent bookseller who is offering a 15% discount to our group. Help create some young readers! Book drive runs from now until the end of January 2024! Please contact Piper Edelman when you have books to donate at pgadelman@gmail.com.

Laundry Pop Up Update – Belinda Benassi - leader
On Saturday December 16th from 10AM to 12PM we will hold our next Laundry Pop-Up in Arroyo Grande. It is a lot of fun helping so many grateful people by paying to do up to 3 loads of laundry! If you would like to join this great group, please let us know. We only have a short list of volunteers. Each month we only need 3 volunteers. Belinda Benassi leads this program and could use a few more volunteers. If we had a larger list each volunteer could do it once a quarter! Contact us at sslocwomenade@gmail.com and we’ll put you in touch with Belinda.
