A Wonderful Tour of our Newest Partner Agency

Our newest partner is Healing Heroes Through Horsemanship! https://heroeshorses.org/  They are a “twofer” – they rescue racehorses and mustangs and homeless veterans!  They are located on the mesa at 315 Jenner Way in Arroyo Grande

On May 27th fourteen Womenaders went on a tour of the Healing Heroes Through Horsemanship ranch. It is located off El Campo between Los Berros and Halcyon down a dirt road.  Yvette D’Unienville, one of the co-founders, led the tour. We met 21 horses including 3 baby horses (a colt and 2 fillies)!  We watched as veterans cared for horses and we learned how the organization trains students and prepares horses to be adopted.  The horses are retired or failed race horses and wild mustangs which they save from being euthanized.  They create a structured and accredited pathway for veterans to harness their passion for horses, acquire valuable skills, and embark on fulfilling careers which creates the profound impact of the human-horse connection.

Next Potluck

Karen Kolba is hosting our June Potluck Fundraiser – “A Summer Solstice Celebration”. It will be on June 26th at 6PM at the Toucan Terrace Club House at 955 Terry Drive in Pismo Beach.

At our last potluck fundraiser we gathered some information about what attendees would like to have at potlucks.  Ideas included: have a theme and an activity; no more advocates walking around with story boards; first timers attend for free; advocates sit with donors – all of which we are implementing at this potluck.

Our theme is “A Summer Solstice Celebration”.  Invitations will go out next week or you can check it out now: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/womenade-summer-solstice-potluck-june--26 and be one of the early responders!

Upcoming Project – Teachers’ School Supplies – coming in July

Our summer drive is Teachers’ School Supplies! The school year is over, and the kids and teachers are celebrating some much-needed vacation time.  Before we know it, the next school year will be upon us.  School supplies go on sale in many stores starting as early as June but definitely in full swing by the middle of July.  We are running our drive from July 15 to August 15.  We will be looking for drop off locations, creating an Amazon Wish List and a Sign Up Genius to sign up for what you’d like to donate.  Our drive is going to have a twist this coming school year.  Our Principals and Teachers have told has that so many people and organizations collect and generously donate school supplies in the fall, but NO ONE thinks about Teachers School Supply needs come second semester in January.  Our twist is we are holding the drive in July/August as the supplies are on sale then.  We have an amazing Womenader who has volunteered to store all donated school supplies until January.  At that time, we will gather a team to sort, count and pack the supplies to go to the schools in need.

If you want to get a jump on it the school supplies requested by teachers are:

  • Baby Wipes (to clean Headphones)

  • Blue Clorox Wipes (to clean surfaces)

  • Scotch Laminating Sheets

  • Paper Mate Flair Pens

  • Fine Point Dry Erase Markers both Color/Black

  • Dry Erase Markers (Fine Point, Color/Black)

  • Sharpies (Fine and Large)

  • Sticky Notes/Post-it Notes (All sizes)

  • Glue Sticks

  • Painters and Masking Tape

  • Whiteboard Magnets and Clips

  • Avery Adhesive Labels
