The potluck on September 1, 2022 at Caren Russom’s home in the village was an amazing success with nearly 50 people in attendance! From the pictures you can see that a fun time was had by all. We are all still buzzing! We raised $3,150 at this amazing potluck fundraiser last night. So incredible! Kudos and gratitude to Caren Russom for hosting and her co-host Shelly Springer with help from Shirley Horacek! Caren invited her neighbors and many attended and learned about South SLO County Womenade and what we do.

Lola Zybura and Lisa Murdoch are co-leading the toiletry drive!. It runs from September 1 to September 30. If you don’t want to shop, you can go on Amazon or Walmart and have items shipped to Lola or Sue’s addresses (see below). Drop off locations are:

In October we are running a “we missed the bus” drive specifically for teachers who still need specific school items for their students. Once the “stuff the boss” campaign is over teachers will still be missing critical teaching supplies and are always reaching into their own pockets for these supplies. Many of the stores have specials on school supplies now. If you want to get items while they are on sale and available, here is a list of items teachers need the most:

Holiday Food Baskets
Kristen Bertsch Heenan will be leading our Holiday Food Basket Drive again. Sign-ups will begin in October and the drive will run through Friday, November 11, 2022 so we have enough time to fill the gaps by November 19, delivery day. Look for communications in early October. This year we hope to provide Holiday food to 150 families primarily through the First 5 Early Learning Centers and the Early Head Start Step by Step programs. Through a grant from the City of Grover Beach we will make a second delivery before the Christmas holiday break for families in need in Grover Beach.
Little Food Pantry outside of the Boys and Girls Club
We often get questions about where people can donate food in the community. There is a little food pantry outside the Boys and Girls Club in Oceano on the corner of 19th Street and Beach St. It is often empty. Remember it’s small but your donations are welcome – please only non-expired items.
