THANKSGIVING BASKETS Hooray, We have found a project leader for the Thanksgiving Basket Project! Kristin Heenan volunteered, and she has created a great way for us to volunteer to buy food for the 65 very low income families in south SLO county so they can also have a thankful Thanksgiving! You'll be hearing about the progress of filling these baskets in the coming weeks as we all "Sign Up Geniusly".
Here is the email from Kristin - let's rally and help fill these Thanksgiving baskets!: "I am Kristin Heenan, and I have volunteered to lead the Thanksgiving Basket Project in South SLO County for Womenade this year! We are putting together Thanksgiving Gift Baskets for 65 families who are part of the First5 Early Learning programs in Grover Beach, Nipomo and Oceano, and the Step by Step Early Head Start program at Lopez High School. Each basket will contain everything each family will need to create an amazing Thanksgiving meal, and we need your help in filling the baskets. We did this last year for 40 families, and it was a great success! We look forward to coming together to help these 65 families in our community enjoy their Thanksgiving this year. We are trying out a new way of keeping track of the food and volunteering needs by using an online tracking system called, Sign Up Genius. After clicking the link below to access the form, click the checkbox next the item(s) you plan to purchase and click the “submit and sign up” button at the bottom of the page. Next, update the Quantity field next to each item to let us know how many you will be purchasing, and add a comment if needed. Finally, fill in your name and email and hit “Sign Up Now”. This will help us keep track of what has been spoken for and what’s left to fill the Thanksgiving baskets. Sign up to buy food and deliver to one of our drop off locations by 11/12 - locations coming in future newsletters 2. Help pack up the food in bags on the morning of Friday, 11/19 for delivery 3. Drive to pick up the turkeys which will be donated by the Food Bank at 9am on 11/19 4. Drive the bags to a First5 location drop off on 11/19 5. Donate Money that our shoppers will use to shop for items not donated: Use the form on our web site and mention “Thanksgiving baskets” https://www.sslocw.org/ or see section below "How to donate" 6.
