An Intimate and Fabulous Potluck

We had a wonderful fundraiser potluck at Gay Groomes’ home on September 27, 2022! We were a cozy, intimate but powerful group of Womenade and raised almost $1,300! This was a great illustration of how a potluck doesn’t have to be in a huge home with dozens of guests!

Next Potluck Dinners

October 12, 2022, Wednesday, last potluck fundraiser of 2022, at 6PM at Candace Guldeman’s home, 524 Mesa View Drive in Arroyo Grande on the mesa. Evite is already out there. If you didn’t receive an invitation, just email us at sslocwomenade@gmail.com and let us know you’d like to attend. Come join us. We are behind in donations this year, so please help us by spreading the word and consider joining us for a great time. The food is always spectacular as we have some of the best cooks in south SLO County attending. We are collecting Teachers’ School Supplies and you can bring them this night and save yourself a drop off trip.

January 17, 2023, Tuesday, our first potluck fundraiser of 2023, at 6PM at Lynn Heinrich’s home at 759 Avocet Way, Arroyo Grande on the mesa in Cypress Ridge.

We are looking for hosts for future potlucks – big or small. As we said above it doesn’t have to be huge to be a success. Please contact us at sslocwomenade@gmail.com if you are interested. We are trying to broaden our reach to new members and other areas in south county eg. Shell Beach, Nipomo, Oceano, 227, Huasna etc.

WHAT’S GOING ON?

The Great Toiletry Drive

Pictures show donated items before and after sorting and packing

Lola Zybura and Lisa Murdoch co-led the toiletry drive, and it was an enormous success. AN ENORMOUS THANK YOU to all who donated, served as drop off locations, transported items to Lola and Lisa’s homes, spread the word, sorted, packed and delivered. Please send us an email at sslocwomenade@gmail.com with what you think you spent on toiletries this year. If you’d like a tax receipt we can email you one. My guess is that the total value is in the thousands of dollars! We delivered to 22 agencies in South SLO County. There are so many grateful people in our community.

School Supplies for Teachers

In October we are running a “we missed the bus” drive specifically for teachers who still need specific school items for their classrooms. Teachers are always dipping into their pockets to purchase things they need to teach effectively. Many items are not provided by the schools. Here is a list of items teachers need the most:

Holiday Food Baskets

Kristen Bertsch Heenan will be leading our Holiday Food Basket Drive again. The Sign-Up Genius will be available around October 10th. We will send the link in a separate email. Sign-ups will start as soon as we send out the Sign-Up Genius and will run through Thursday, November 10, 2022 so we have enough time to fill the gaps by November 17th, delivery day. This year we hope to provide Holiday food to 170 families primarily through the First 5 Early Learning Centers and the Early Head Start Step by Step programs in South SLO County. With the help from a grant from the City of Grover Beach we will make a second delivery before the holiday break for families in need in Grover Beach.

KUDOS to Taco Works in SLO! They have once again offered to fulfill our need for taco chips for all of our 170 families! Support our local taco chip makers!

Volunteers needed

The SLO Foodbank is offering their partner agencies food from their Season of Hope campaign. Partner agencies get to keep whatever food they pick up from a barrel. We are volunteering to pick up food at one site in south county (hopefully AG) and are looking for volunteers to pick up the food - maximum pick-ups weekly from October 10 to December 15. Please email us at sslocwomenade@gmail.com if you are interested.
