The Next Potluck
Mark your calendar! October 19, Thursday at 6pm
October 19th is the next South SLO County Potluck at the 950 Room at Cypress Ridge. It’s been three months since we held an event, and we sure miss seeing you. Please spread the word far and wide! Bring a friend, relative, and/or neighbor. Bring a dish to share, your place setting and beverage and a check for $50 (more is always appreciated!). Our agencies’ clients are also always in need of laundry detergent, diapers size 6 and gas cards. The Evite will go out on October 1st. If you don’t receive one and you would like to attend, please email us at sslocwomenade@gmail.com.
We are looking for hosts for potluck fundraisers in 2024! Please consider spreading the word about throughout South SLO County and inviting your network of friends to join us. You can do this by hosting a potluck fundraiser. There are so many areas in South SLO County that don’t know who we are and what we do! Help us get the word out!
December 13, Wednesday at 6pm Candace Guldeman is hosting a Christmas Themed Potluck Fundraiser complete with her amazingly decorated Christmas home! Please put a hold on your calendar.
Thanksgiving and December Holidays Food Baskets
Come join the fun! We NEED your help and participation! Five years ago we started making Thanksgiving Baskets for about 20 families for the First5 Early Learning program in Oceano. This project has grown to 160 Thanksgiving Baskets for families of the three First 5 Early Learning programs in Grover Beach, Nipomo and Oceano, and the four Early Head Start Programs in Arroyo Grande, Nipomo (2) and Oceano. The number of families in need is increasing, and we’re going to try to fill another 90 for the winter holiday break.
Please follow the instructions in the SignUpGenius. If you have any questions please email Kristin Heenan kbertsch@gmail.com Please share the link!
Updates on Projects
Laundry Pop Up – Belinda Benassi - leader
On Saturday September 23rd from 9 to 11AM we held our fourth Laundry Pop Up at the Laundromat at 13th and Grand Ave in Grover Beach. Belinda Benassi is leading this project. Jean Graham, Ann McDowell, Sheila Semana and Belinda Benassi helped so many people get 3 loads of laundry done for free! At the moment we are holding a pop up once a month. It is a lot of fun helping so many grateful people by giving financial help for 3 loads of laundry! If you would like to join this great group, please let us know. Contact us at sslocwomenade@gmail.com and we’ll put you in touch with Belinda.
Nipomo Food Distribution – Rosemary Cleaves, Sue McCutcheon, and Mary Anne Morgan - project leaders
Our next food distribution is on Tuesday October10th at Nipomo Elementary School (the second Tuesday of the month). Last month we gave food out to 320 families. We have a dedicated group of volunteers who make this program run smoothly. From time to time we need substitutes to help out. If you would like to be on the substitute list please email us. sslocwomenade@gmail.com
Weekend Food Bags for Food Insecure Students – Ann McDowell and Mary Anne Morgan - leaders
Our food pantry for students without weekend food at Lopez High School started up on September 14th. Mary Anne Morgan picks up and delivers food weekly from the Foodbank to Lopez High School and the staff and students run the pantry every other week. Our Weekend Food Bags program for elementary and middle school students started up Friday September 15th.
We still need a few volunteers to “adopt a few weekend food bags for students”. This entails buying the food, packing the brown bags and delivering the bags to an elementary school every two weeks. We have a large group of dedicated volunteers at Trilogy under Judy Woo’s leadership, who pack bags for students at the three middle schools. Lisa Murdoch is our delivery person for the middle schools. We have another new team at Trilogy that started this semester under the leadership of Jean Baker, who pack bags for the elementary schools. This is the program we still need some help with. You can "adopt" one, or two students or more! It's fun and rewarding. Please consider helping out on this important project. We can’t imagine these students not having food to eat over the weekend! Contact us at sslocwomenade@gmail.com.
