So many fun things coming up for South SLO County Womenade
IT’S PLANNING TIME AT SOUTH SLO COUNTY WOMENADE
ON THE HORIZON: POTLUCKS
The Omicron variant of COVID19 has thrown us for a loop! As you know our goal is to have a potluck in a different area in south SLO County every month inviting new people to learn about us and to expand our reach. We hope to have 4 “open” invitation potlucks for people to gather and meet old and new friends. A few Womenaders have raised their hand to hold a potluck inviting their friends and neighbors so they can learn about us. At the moment we have tentative plans for 5 potlucks with some being closed groups and some being open groups.
Due to Omicron we are not starting to gather until early March. We have potlucks tentatively planned for:
March 10 – Cliva Mee in Trilogy- closed group
April 26 – Ann McDowell – open invitation - chocolate themed with the raffle
June 21 – Mariam Shah -open invitation
July ? – Caren Russom - closed group
September – Gay Groomes - open group
Please let us know if you would like to host a potluck in the fall. We need one more place to host an open group gathering.
BOOK DRIVE
Sharon McDaniel and her friends, Kim, Piper and Carla are starting a year–round book drive for elementary and middle school children. They held a very successful drive last December and are getting organized to launch a year-round collection. More information as they move forward.
RAFFLE
Raffle, “Admin April”
Raffle – A number of people have stepped up with prizes to be offered for our raffle on April 26th at the potluck.
We are continuing to ask for donations for this raffle. We would love offers of items for the raffle as well as “experiences such as frequent flyer tickets or time shares that you could offer! Please dig into your stashes of things that you think might make a good raffle prize and contact us at sslocwomenade@gmail.com. Please help to make this a great raffle fundraiser for us.
Admin April – Meanwhile, the proceeds of our last Admin April in 2020 lasted us a couple of years, and now we need to hold another one. Our expenses are very small (approximately $3,000 a year and mostly for insurance) but they still exist. You can make a donation now toward our “Admin April” or wait until April. Mark the memo line on your check or on your on line donation to read “Admin April”. We appreciate your assistance to help cover these expenses. As a reminder, no one at South SLO County Womenade is paid. Every penny of our regular fundraising is used to meet an urgent or emergency need in south SLO County.
The Nutrition Team Update
Our nutrition team continues to provide weekend food for students at the three middle schools and Lopez High School. Judy Woo leads a fabulous team in Trilogy who donates and packs the food bags for the middles schools. We are broadening our reach and have recently added students at Branch Elementary and Grover Beach Elementary Schools. In the near future we plan to add a few more elementary schools. If you would like to be part of the delivery teams, please let us know at sslocwomenade@gmail.com.
Our great volunteers drive many miles every week picking up and delivering food for these lunches as well as for some much needed food to our neighbors in need. Many thanks to: Ann McDowell, Mary Anne Morgan, Judy Woo, Lisa Murdoch, Erica Andrade, and Jennie Curto. We are very grateful to the SLO Foodbank for having some of the needed food available for us to purchase for these programs.
OTHER PROJECTS
PROJECT LEADERS
We often are asked by our members if there is anything they can do or participate in. With gatherings being limited we don’t have any large scale activities. However, we have traditionally held a number of drives throughout the year. This is something that we need help with. We are looking for project leaders to spearhead some projects. If you have a project that you would like to do and would like to do it under the Womenade umbrella (like the Book Drive above), contact us.
Feminine Hygiene Products:
The next project needing a leader is a feminine hygiene products drive. Most people don’t think to donate these items during “food” drives but they are desperately needed by women in our community. In the future we would also like to hold an annual toiletry drive to help with the hygiene poverty in our community and a possibly school supplies drive.
