We're moving into "gratitude" time. Here are some ideas to stay involved and be grateful.

September 28, 2020 Newsletter

We’re entering the gratitude season!  Are you looking for a way to make a difference?  We have a couple of project ideas to share with those of you who are looking for something to do in this dreadful pandemic.

Idea #1:  The first exciting idea we have is a way to honor family and friends with a “donation in honor of” someone.  Gwen Carton, one of our ongoing supporters came up with the idea.  She wanted to honor a dear friend’s big birthday and asked if there was a way she could send in a donation in honor of her friend.  Of course we could send an acknowledging post card or card!  Then as part of our ongoing desire not to spend money on things like postage, we came up with the idea of a digital card. We found a free option and designed a card and voila, here it is. When the recipient scrolls over the card it opens to reveal the message of who made a donation in their honor. Please consider honoring a friend or relative with a donation to South SLO County Womenade.  Share the idea with your friends and family. We will create and send an e-card to both the honoree and the donor.  Both Gwen and her honoree loved the card.  The honoree said it was the best birthday gift she received!

Idea #2: Last year before Thanksgiving we worked with the advocate a First 5 in Oceano to fill “Thanksgiving” baskets with holiday food items that their neediest families would enjoy for the holiday.  We filled 15 baskets complete with tortillas, corn, oil, nacho chips, vegetables, pies etc.  We have reconnected with First5 and hope to do a similar project this year.  We are looking for a leader and a team to do this project.  This year there may be three First5 sites (Oceano, Grover Beach and Nipomo).

Idea #3: In past years the Nipomo Food Distribution team has collected new books for children for Christmas.  We usually gave them away at the December food distribution at the Nipomo Elementary School.  With the pandemic the distribution is quite different.  This year we hope to work with Nipomo Elementary School and possibly Oceano and Grover Beach Elementary Schools.  We are looking for a leader and team to do this project.

Idea #4: Collect warm wool socks for the homeless.  Did you know that wool socks wick away the moisture and help to keep feet dryer while the cotton ones retain the moisture and make the feet feel colder?  If you would like to head up this project let us know.

We are hoping to hear of other ideas all you wonderful Womenaders have to spread gratitude and joy through the season.  We can get you connected and help you think through how to get it done.
