Wow! Thanksgiving is just one month away! This week we are highlighting our Book Drive! Book Drive
We are collecting new and lightly used books for children from Kindergarten to Grade 8. We have two programs we are providing books for. Many children in our more challenged schools do not have the luxury of a home library. We hope to give a new book to each student at Nipomo Elementary School grades K to 6.
We are also collecting books new and used for students at the Independent Study School at the Pacific View Academy behind Lopez High School. It is a new school and they are trying to set up a library for students K through Grade 8. With so many of the libraries not accepting book donations, this is a terrific time to go through your children’s books and donate books for K to Grade 8 that you might have donated to the library book sales which are not happening during the pandemic. Whiz Kids in SLO (an independent toy store) has very knowledgeable people who can help you select books. Scholastics Book Club https://clubs.scholastic.com/home is also a great online option, and they have very good prices. They are celebrating their 100th anniversary. During the pandemic the books can be sent to the buyer. You will need to select a school and a member teacher to receive credit for the books (the books don’t have to be for that teacher’s class). Not all teachers are enrolled. Books can be dropped off from now until November 30th at Susan McCutcheon’s house at 2342 Willett Way (Cypress Ridge), Arroyo Grande and at Kathy Ichien’s house at 1835 Northwood (in Trilogy), Nipomo. Matching Grant – We have a fabulous anonymous matching grant donor! They are willing to match $5,000 in donations to meet end of the year funding needs for the holidays. They will match donations between now and November 20th up to $5,000! Let’s start those checks flying in to:

Remember that you can make donations in honor of someone for a special occasion or the holidays and we will send the honoree (if you send us email contact information) and the donor a customized card. Send in a donation either by check or paypal. On the comment line or on a sticky note if it’s a check, state that the donation is in honor of “the name of the honoree and occasion” plus add the honoree’s email address.
Next Potluck
Our next Zoom Potluck is scheduled for Sunday November 15th at 4PM. We are looking for your input what type of activities you’d like to have at the virtual potluck in addition to hearing from the advocates. Please let us hear from you. We are also asking for your pictures of what you have been doing during the pandemic or pictures that show your involvement in Womenade activities. Send to sslocwomenade@gmail.com.
